May Court Club presented a cheque for $60,000 to Brockville General Hospital on May 23.

The official presentation confirmed the service club’s decision earlier this year to give $60k to mark its 60 years. May Court, part of a group of eight clubs in Ontario, was founded in Brockville in 1959. The first May Court Club was formed in Ottawa in 1898, the inspiration of Lady Ishbel Aberdeen, wife of the governor-general.

Brockville May Court raises funds chiefly with sales at its Thrift Shop. Monies go exclusively to projects in the local community. Brockville General Hospital is currently undertaking a five-storey, 175,000-square-foot addition, scheduled to open in 2020. May Court’s donation is earmarked for palliative care.
